Protecting Yourself from Financial Crimes

Dating apps can be used irresponsibly by scammers looking to make money. With Mutual's required verification system, you can rest easy knowing the person you are talking to is who they say they are.

Scammers may also use their own name and likeness. Look for the following red flags to avoid becoming a victim of financial crime:

  • NEVER
    • Give out your financial information (card, account, and/or routing numbers).
    • Send money to someone.
    • Tell someone how much you make.

  • ALWAYS
    • Report people that ask you for money.
    • Report profiles that include money services and requests for money.

You have the ability to protect yourself. Don't fall for anyone saying that they need help, especially if the case seems extreme. This is a common tactic used by scammers to create urgency and confusion leading you to make a poor decision. Don't fall for anyone offering to invest money for you, or teach you how.
